Children at Risk

All children are at risk. There are about two billion children in our world, and half of them are at risk from poverty. Millions are at risk from prosperity. Children of the wealthy and secure have everything to live with, but nothing to live for.

In 14-17 May 2017, about 80 global influencers gathered at Lancaster Bible College, located in Pennsylvania, USA, for The Second Lausanne Forum on Children at Risk. The goal of the forum was to promote sustained collaborative action within the global church community and to respond to both the Quito Call to Action and the Lausanne Occasional Paper on Children at Risk (produced at the Quito Consultation on Children at Risk in November 2014). the various participants joined with the CAR issue network to respond to these foundational documents and to collaboratively discover ways ‘to educate, unify, and mobilize the global church to mission to, for, and with children at risk, empowering them as vulnerable agents of God’.

Much of the time was spent in five action groups – children on the move (refugees), reframing the CAR paradigm, amplifying children’s voices, multiplying training programs, regional forums. These work groups were grounded in the realities of Children at Risk by regularly reviewing many pictures and letters coming from children in difficult circumstances which were gathered by the participants. Please continue praying for this group as they work to help the church fulfil its calling to care for “the least of these”.
